secondary school work experience
a partnership with banff academy
We worked with Aberdeenshire Council’s Work Placement Unit and created an annual placement for a creative young person from our local academy to spend a week with us learning about our business.
The experience includes learning about what a Community Interest Company is, exploring our website and social media and developing a marketing plan for the week. We also ask the students to assist within the workshop, setting up for classes and helping to clean up afterwards. If we have events / workshops outwith the Smiddy, we ask the students to attend to gain more experience about what working within a jewellery and silversmithing school entails. Creating a simple piece of jewellery during the week using basic skills learned, to understand a little about the making process, is the highlight of the week.
